The Orion ShortTube 80-A achromatic refractor telescope is back in the Orion lineup by popular demand! It is the astronomical observation version of the ShortTube 80 achromatic refractor (the "-A" is for Astronomy).
The Short-Tube 80-A is a very compact, wide-field astro telescope that you can take with you to your favorite dark sky location with ease. The 80 mm objective lens, short 400 mm (f/5) focal length, and wide field of view make this scope ideal for viewing large deep-sky objects. These may include star clusters, nebulae, and even galaxies! You can also take detailed looks at the cratered surface of the Moon, Saturn's rings, and other solar system targets.
The ST80-A's doublet objective lens is multi-coated to give you excellent light transmission. It is housed in an all-aluminum 15" long tube that is equipped with a 1.25" rack-and-pinion focuser on one end and an aluminum dew shield on the other end. This dew shield extends more than 3" out from the lens, preventing dew formation and blocking off-axis glare. The large 8 x 40 finder scope will ensure that you can locate and center your target with ease.
