Up for sale is a Meade Telescope 8" SCT Optical Tube with extras circa 1984 with EMC coatings. White on Gray 8” f:10 SCT including factory Meade 6x30mm finder, all caps and a 2” visual back, 2”/1 ¼” adapter with bronze compression rings, star diagonal and 15mm SWA eyepiece giving 135x. This unit does NOT have the image shift that many Meade SCTs suffer from. The optics are clean and images are very sharp. It was an era when Meade was built with greater care.
There are a few normal for age and use very minor dings in the tube but nothing that visually detracts or in any way would hinder operation, minor cosmetic wear after 42 years of use. The focuser is very smooth and the 2” visual back allows one to install a 2” star diagonal and 2” eyepieces, camera, etc.
The case shown in the images is included and holds the scope with finder and diagonal with supportive foam in the crate, no need to disassemble the OTA and components. With all of these scopes one can install a larger finder, other dovetail bars, etc. This has an 8” Vixen bar on the base that balances the scope nicely. Images that include the scope on a mount do NOT include the mount. The price is for the OTA, finder, 2” visual back, 2”-1 ¼” reducer and SWA eyepiece and case only and for $349 OBO it’s a bargain!
The scope will mount nicely on any mount that has a Vixen saddle which is most all of them.
