I am offering a limited number of Asil roosters from my farm in Oak Harbor. These birds are between one and two years old and are raised fully outdoors. They live on pasture and do most of their own foraging which has produced hardy alert and naturally vigorous birds.
Asils are one of the oldest chicken breeds in the world with roots that date back over two thousand years in the Indian subcontinent. They were traditionally kept in India Pakistan and Bangladesh and were valued not only for strength and courage but also for their intelligence loyalty and the care they show toward their keepers. Asils are compact powerful birds with a long tradition in human history and today they are considered a rare and important heritage breed.
I am using select Asil lines as part of my Malay breeding program known as the MIGHT project which stands for Malay Invigoration Gene Hybridization Team. The purpose of this program is to bring added vigor health and resilience into my Malay chickens while keeping true Malay type.
Malay chickens themselves are among the tallest and oldest Asian game breeds with origins in the region that includes India Sri Lanka and parts of Southeast Asia. They were brought into Europe in the early eighteen hundreds and have been prized for their height strong frame and commanding presence. Due to low population numbers worldwide they are considered a rare breed and preserving them takes thoughtful breeding work.
If you are looking for strong healthy heritage roosters either for a breeding program or for maintaining a hardy flock these Asils are a great choice. They come from a line that has been selected for outdoor health natural vigor and traditional Asil character.
