Material Management Supervisor – Job Description
The Material Management Supervisor is responsible for overseeing procurement and warehouse operations to support daily production needs. This role ensures the timely sourcing, receipt, storage, and distribution of Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) materials while maintaining accurate inventory and documentation.
Key responsibilities include supervising daily warehouse activities to ensure efficient material flow and inventory accuracy, managing storage and handling requirements, and maintaining physical inventory and equipment records. The supervisor assigns equipment identification numbers (MM#) and tracks all related data.
This role also manages the procurement process by issuing purchase orders, coordinating approvals, and ensuring timely payment processing. The supervisor identifies cost-saving opportunities by sourcing new suppliers and evaluating materials. Oversight of vendor programs, including Fastenal, and conducting cost-benefit analyses are also required.
Additionally, the position supports production planning by coordinating material kitting and assisting with warehouse operations as needed. Accurate documentation of purchasing, inventory levels, and supplier performance is essential.
Qualifications:
3–5+ years of supply chain or procurement experience in manufacturing. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills required. Proficiency in QuickBooks is preferred.
