Dunlin is a cat ketch rigged sailing rowing peapod with unique port and starboard retractable bilge boards and two internal water ballast compartments.
The boards on either side of the cockpit allow a beach cruising person or competitive sailor rower to sleep in the 7ft long cockpit. The fore and aft compartments are watertight as are port and starboard seat lockers and the boat floats high and is stable if swamped.
The masts are free standing carbon fiber and the sails furl and reef by simply rotating the masts.
Kees Prins designed and built DUNLIN for fast sailing and rowing.
In 2021 Kees added my Alden Oarmaster 2 slide seat rowing rigging on a new custom built wood frame to DUNLIN for a young friend who successfully raced DUNLIN in the Washington 360 completing that in 6 and a half days.
The boat has unfortunately not been used by me since 2022 and has been sitting under her custom three piece boat cover on her trailer. I just bought another bigger boat so I am sure now I will not make time for DUNLIN and she really deserves to be used.
The boat’s beauty is readily apparent but her exceptional construction details have to be seen in person to be appreciated.
