Very solid and seaworthy vessel. Great racer/cruiser made by Capital Yatchs and well known boat designer Gary Mull. This is a well-cared for and very dependable Newport 30 Mark II Sailboat. Having 3 boys we are feeling ourselves pulled in too many directions (including my eldest getting into racing small boats and frequent regattas). She took us on numerous San Juan adventures overnighting and day sails. For someone looking for a solid boat that won’t break the bank and get you out to the San Juans/Puget Sound/Gulf Islands and beyond; this would be a great boat. Located in Skyline Marina Anacortes, WA (closest to the San Juan Islands). Slip transferred no problem when we bought, should be good to do the same.
Newport 30’s have a great interior layout with lots of head room. Cozy carpet, retro but clean cushions, and heaters to keep the interior comfortable.
Engine:
Yanmar 2GM20F – Hours unknown but has had regular maintenance, oil change/filer, fuel filter, impellar/belts, etc..
-Work done by Northwest Marine Services and Essential Shipyard Industries.
-Had full rebuild early 2000’s. Low hours but consistent use since. Previous owner and myself (last 6 years) has only put on 30-50 hours average per year.
-New motor mounts installed 2022
-oil change/filter and fuel filter May 2025
-transmission fluid drained and replaced May 2025
-Fuel filter replaced May 2025
-Impellar and belt check May 2025 (have 2 spare impellars and spare belts)
Sails:
-Main, 125 Genoa, and 145 Genoa. Also have a brand-new head sail with hank on
-Furler for head sails
Bottom:
-Hauled out, thorough cleaning, and bottom painted April 2023 with Cukote high end anti fouling paint.
-Have gotten in the water with wetsuit to do scrub down each year and clean water line multiple times a year when at dock.
-Cleaned out thru holes and installed new zinc/anode July 2025. Diver said paint was still in decent shape.
Upgrades since I purchased with listing below:
-New Zodiac Dinghy with Honda 2hp motor, fresh oil change
-Upgraded with additional 27’ bbb anchor chain (to match the current 10’) and more stout Bruce anchor
Other notes:
-Took off the full canvas cockpit enclosure. It had a couple tears which I patched but still needs some TLC…although a lot of good canvas. I preferred the open cockpit for better visibility when sailing.
-Full netting around the boat for good security while on board…especially for young passengers
-Has good davit system for dinghy
-Swim ladder
-Many extras that will come with the boat (fenders, lines, cleaning supplies and tools, dock hook, bbq, cushions, wagoneer guides, spare parts, spare tiller, etc..)
-Relatively light on electronics but has never been an issue with so many helpful apps used for navigation. Has a compass and depth sounder along with handheld vhf radio.
Listing from Previous Owner (sold April 2023):
Boat is in good working order, just got back from a 2 week trip in the Canadian Gulf Islands. Spent some time in San Juan’s, Sidney, Ganges, Galiano, Nanaimo, Gabriola, filled up fuel half way through the trip, added only 6 gallons of diesel!
Cockpit is fully enclosed with dodger, sun shade, and vinyl side windows. Comes with 145% Gennoa on roller furling (summer sail in good condition) and 105% Jib as spare (winter sail in okay condition). Has Yanmar 2GM20F diesel engine that was retrofitted in the early 2000’s. 30 gallon diesel tank, 60 gallons fresh water tank, 12 gallons holding tank. Heat from forced air diesel cabin heater (5kW Webasto style), has a 3 burner propane range with oven, and a Jabsco manuel toilet with new plumbing last year. Two anchors to choose from, Bruce works well around here, danforth anchor if you want to collect some salad greens. 10 chain and 200 of rode connect to a Lewmar windlass which has its own dedicated battery. Comes with an 8’ inflatable dingy with oars and a trolling motor to get to shore.
The boat is in the water full time with no leaks from salt water below or fresh water from above. Its currently in Skyline Marina, which is the closest marina to the San Juan’s while still being in Anacortes. Slip should transfer no problem.
This boat has been very comfortable for our family of 3 for the last several seasons, we’ve spent a lot of time on it both summer and winter. The enclosed cockpit and cabin heater makes winter sailing much more possible with young ones aboard.
